Belajar B. Inggris dari Cerita Abu Nawas (Learning English from Nasreddin's Story)

Hai.... Kali ini kembali lagi kita belajar B. Inggris dari cerita Abu Nawas  (Learning English from Nasreddin's Story).

Kali ini kita belajar tentang perbedaan kata sometimes dan sometimedan belajar tentang Past Continuous Tense melalu cerita lucu Abu Nawas.

Namun sebelum membahas tentang kedua hal tersebut, silahkan temen-temen baca terlebih dahulu cerita di bawah ini ya.

Doorbell

Nasreddin had lived in his village since he was a baby. When he was a kid, like other normal kids, He also liked playing. He was sometimes nice, but sometimes naughty. He sometimes did a surprising thing. One day, when he was walking along a small street in the village, he saw a big house with a doorbell above the door. There weren't many families having doorbells at that time. Of course, as a kid , he got attracted by the doorbell.

He went through the gate of the big house which was apparently not locked. He approached the door and saw the doorbell above his head. He really wanted to know what the bell would sound.

"Ugh, ugh," he tried to reach the bell. Unfortunately, he was too short that he couldn't reach it.

"I've got to find a way to ring it," he said to himself.

His eyes searched around the yard, trying to find a ladder or a stick that he could use to ring the bell. But there wasn't one. From a distance, an old and tall man was walking towards the house. Nasreddin saw him.

"Sir, can you help me?" Nasreddin asked the man.

"What can I do for you?" The man asked.

"Could you ring that bell for me? I can't reach it."

"Ok."

Then the man rang the bell.

"Can you do it again?" Nasreddin asked.

"Why?"

"The owner of the house is a bit deaf, he wouldn't hear it if you only rang it once," Nasreddin explained.

"Sure," The man replied. He did ring the bell three times.

The owner of the house, who got disturbed, opened the door with an angry look.

"Sorry, Sir, a little boy asked me to help him to ring the bell. He's standing beside me now," the tall man explained.

"What? I don't see any boys!"

Nasreddin had gone away.

# Sometimes atau Sometime???

Pada bacaan di atas terdapat kalimat "He was sometimes nice, but sometimes naughty." Lalu apakah perbedaan antara sometimes dan sometime?

Kata sometimes adalah kata keterangan (adverb of manner) yang arinya 'kadang-kadang' atau 'kadang kala'.

Sedangkan kata sometime adalah kata keternagan waktu (adverb of time) yang berarti 'suatu kali' atau 'suatu waktu'.

Ex:
1. Sometimes Nasreddin was naughty and tricky. (kadang-kadang)
2. Nasreddin Sometimes visited his relatives. (kadangkala)
3. I will visit you sometime next week. (suatu waktu)
4. Nasreddin will travel to another city sometime next month. (suatu kali)

# Grammar Focus; Mengenal Past Continuous Tense

Pada cerita di atas terdapat kalimat "when he was walking along a small street in the village, he saw a big house with a doorbell above the door." Dalam bacaan yang mengandung cerita, banyak sekali ditemukan kalimat berpola past continuous tense. Kapan dan untuk apa kalimat ini digunakan???

Kalimat past continuous tense digunakan untuk menunjukkan aktivitas yang sedang terjadi. Perhatikan contoh kalimat berikut ini.

Nasreddin was walking along the street when he saw an old lady.

Terus semangat belajarnya.
